Our Teachers

Kay Huckabee

From the very first class in San Francisco in 1982 the beauty and integrity of the Iyengar approach to Hatha yoga rang true to me. The dedication and skill in instruction inspired me to attempt to follow in the footsteps of this lineage of teachers, the work of BKS Iyengar. I pursued my teacher training at the Iyengar Institutes in San Francisco and Los Angeles for 8 years. I also studied directly with the Iyengars in Pune in 1986. Certified as an Iyengar Instructor in 1990.I have been most fortunate to have Manouso Manos and Kofi Busia as my earliest and continuing instructors. It is due to their most profound teaching that I have been able to develop and continue a 32 year practice.of Iyengar Yoga.

Lee infuses humor, compassion, and honest encouragement into his teaching, balancing action with reflection. He is certified at the Introductory 2 Level and continues to study with his teachers Holly Walck Kostura, Patricia Walden, Randy Just and Kay Huckabee .

iyengarProfound, intelligent and transformative, Iyengar Yoga is a complete approach to life that provides practical tools to create and maintain bodily health and vitality, mental clarity, emotional serenity, and spiritual well-being.

Developed by Yoga Master B.K.S. Iyengar during his more than 75 years of teaching, Iyengar Yoga is grounded in the ancient Indian tradition and philosophy of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

The Iyengar Method offers a safe and systematic progression of study to develop each student’s skills and abilities, within each class and from class to class.

Certified teachers are highly-qualified and rigorously-trained, with a deep commitment to excellence in teaching. They teach from a highly-developed teaching methodology including clear demonstration of the postures, precise use of language and specific instructions to develop students’ understanding and intelligent action in practice.

Postures are sequenced in a manner that helps students develop strength and flexibility, stamina and concentration, and correct body alignment.

Props such as blankets, blocks, belts and chairs  are often used to deepen learning and adjust postures to individual needs. ( IYAGNY)
