Certified Iyengar Instruction
Level 1 – Challenging and rewarding, Level 1 classes teach the foundation and the basic poses to build confidence, alignment and poise. These classes focus on classical standing poses, seated poses, preparation for inversions, and relaxation poses. You will build the strength, stamina, flexibility and concentration required to safely advance to Level 2 . Level 1/2 classes offer a safe transition from Level 1 to Level 2.
Level 2 – These Classes are for students with a more consistent yoga practice. Level 1 poses are taught, but teaching instructions are more refined. Deeper forward and backward extensions are introduced as well as twists and inversions.
Level 2/3 – These Classes build upon the fundamental postures taught in Level 2 classes and Level 3 postures are introduced. Students are expected to have physical stamina and a regular practice of all asana groups including the inversions.
Level 3 – Students must have a well-established practice of Iyengar Yoga to attend these classes. This includes a clear understanding of basic principles and an independent practice of all asana groups including the inverted postures. More advanced inversions and backward extensions are practiced and taught.
Yoga for Healing – Each 8 Week Series focuses on a particular area of the body and common ailments – low back, neck and shoulders, knee issues etc. Students learn how to move out of habitual movement patterns that cause pain. Instructions and adjustments appropriate to your injury/chronic condition are given on an individual basis. Yogic coping mechanisms for dealing with the mental and emotional effects of pain and the means to achieve and sustain a balanced state of mind are also taught and explored.
Restorative Yoga – Relax, rejuvenate and renew in supported positions with gentle attention directed toward the breath and calming the mind, body and spirit. Props are utilized, allowing access for all ages, body types, and levels of conditioning.
