Class Descriptions

Introduction to Iyengar Yoga – The  6 Week Introductory series is designed specifically for the student new to yoga or new to the Iyengar Method of Yoga. These classes introduce poses “asanas” and the basic principals of alignment. Students of all abilities can perform the intro asanas with the use props specific to Iyengar Yoga such as blocks, belts and blankets. These asanas will help you develop strength, flexibility, balance, and stamina while cultivating discipline, courage and sensitivity in mind, body and spirit. At the completion of the series, students will possess the basic knowledge required to progress to the next level of classes.

Continuing Beginners –  These are  ongoing classes for students with a basic understanding of the asanas (postures). The next level of asanas, such as back bends, forward bends, twistings, abdominals and inversions are introduced. Guided by Preliminary Course based on the syllabus taught at the Institute in Pune, India, these classes build the strength, stamina, flexibility and concentration required to safely advance toward an Intermediate Level of practice.

All Levels –   Fundamental postures are taught and modified for each student’s individual ability and level of experience.

Intermediate –  For students with an established Iyengar Yoga practice. Students must have knowledge of and practice the standing poses and inversions with confidence.Variations and refinements are taught.

Ageless Yoga –  Focused on building strength and flexibility for those students experiencing the effects of age and gravity, those who need a slower paced class or students who are recovering from illness or injury.

Restorative –  Relax, rejuvenate and renew in supported positions with gentle attention directed toward the breath and calming the mind, body and spirit. Props are utilized, allowing access for all ages, body types, and levels of conditioning.
